What to do if the MITS Monitor & Control window freezes while the machine is still running

You can close the Monitor & Control window and reopen it.

The Windaq in MITS 10 and DAQ window in MITS 8 are the core of the software. Monitor and control window is only the UI.

Short answer

Close the frozen Monitor & Control window and open it again. The machine and the test keep running while you do this, because the window you are closing is only the display, not the part of MITS that controls the machine.

Why this is safe

MITS is split into two parts that run independently:

Part

MITS 10

MITS 8

Role

Core

Windaq window

DAQ window

Communicates with the machine, runs the test and collects the data

User interface

Monitor & Control window

Monitor & Control window

Shows live status and lets you send commands to the core

The Monitor & Control window only reads from and talks to the core. When it freezes, the core keeps working in the background, so closing the window does not stop the machine, interrupt the test or lose data.

How to close and reopen the window

  1. Check that the Windaq window (MITS 10) or DAQ window (MITS 8) is still open and responding. This confirms the core is still running.

  2. Close the Monitor & Control window with the X button in its top-right corner.

  3. If the window does not respond, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), select the Monitor & Control window and click End task. Make sure you select Monitor & Control only.

  4. Reopen Monitor & Control the same way you normally open it.

  5. Confirm the window reconnects and shows live readings from the running machine.

Important: do not close Windaq or DAQ

Never close or end the Windaq window (MITS 10) or the DAQ window (MITS 8) while the machine is running. These are the core of MITS. Closing them can stop the test or lose data, which is exactly what restarting only the Monitor & Control window avoids.

If the problem continues

Contact support if any of the following happens:

  • Monitor & Control freezes again soon after reopening, or freezes repeatedly.

  • The reopened window does not show live data from the machine.

  • The Windaq or DAQ window is also frozen or not responding.

When you contact support, include your MITS version (8 or 10), what the machine was doing when the window froze, and a screenshot if possible.
