Hardware Design Engineer (April 30, 2009)

ARBIN INSTRUMENTS located in College Station, TX is looking for a HARDWARE DESIGN ENGINEER. This is an experienced possition. The Hardware Design Engineer designs and develops hardware solutions for multiple electronic testing system platforms. They independantly evalutate, select, adapt, and modify standard techniquies to meet criteria for the project assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform required analyzing, designing, debugging, testing, installation, and maintenance of battery testing hardware using established techniques and procedures.
  2. Independently plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of engineering work through established procedures.
  3. Assist project leader with developing work plan and time schedules for new generation hardware and software integration including outlining phases and identifying personnel and equipment requirements.
  4. Develop electrical system documentation and operational procedures.
  5. Produce maintenance schematics, drawings, PCB drawings, and BOMs.
  6. Write specifications for designed hardware.
  7. Assist in the preparation of resource estimates and project cost analysis.
  8. Provide diagnostic support to correct processing anomalies in testing systems.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  1. Education: Minimum of a BS degree in EE, Masters degree is preferred.
  2. Experience: At least 5 years of work related experience. The 5 years shall include a minimum of 3 years of hardware development experience and 2 years in power electronics. Working experience on high power system (>100kW) is preferred.
  3. Proficient with schematics/PCB design systems.
  4. Knowledge of linear circuitry.
  5. Knowledge PWM circuitry or power inverter, 5+ years of experience is plus.
  6. Basic office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) software operation.
  7. Basic mechanical structure knowledge and concept design.
  8. Familiar with regenerative power supply technology.
  9. Familiar with popular industrial microcontrollers, DSPs, DSCs.
  10. Familiar with popular industrial field bus.
  11. Basic software knowledge. Embedded software knowledge is plus.
