The advantages of quality battery test data are obvious – reliable results make research more efficient and simplify decision-making based on that data. Yet due to the variable nature of certain types of testing, including battery testing, having a wealth of relevant data is also important for actionable results.

A greater amount of data provides more reliability in overall results, as you are basing decision on a larger data set, rather than fewer data points that may be outliers. A larger dataset also makes it easier to identify trends in battery performance and build reliable performance models based on clear trends. Ultimately, a greater amount of data provides greater certainty and accuracy as you make decisions in battery development.

Generating the large amount of data you need for reliable results will often require a large number of Arbin cyclers (battery testers). Our battery test equipment, including cyclers and auxiliary options are designed to address a range of testing applications: cell battery testing, regenerative battery testing, high-precision testing, and more. Regardless of your particular application, increasing the number of Arbin battery testers that are running tests provides you with more of the data that you need, in a shorter amount of time. However, this can create new hurdles, as the larger number of cyclers can make battery test lab management more difficult.

The Challenges of Managing Multiple Cyclers

With a laboratory or facility filled with Arbin cyclers, managing each one individually can become extremely time-consuming. Tests have to be scheduled, started, and stopped directly with each battery tester. Identifying and resolving issues that arise, and resuming tests once an issue has been resolved, adds to the maintenance time that means active tests are not running.

Clearly, in-person management is inefficient, and becomes impractical with a greater number of Arbin battery testers to manage. When testing managers must go to each cycler and cycler PC to review test data and manage test operations, product time is lost as they move between battery test equipment. If your research team can only identify and address issues when they are physically at the affected machine, that only increases the amount of downtime between active testing.

In addition to testing efficiency and researcher productivity, a multiple-cycler system has implications for managing the safety of your facility. Errors and other issues in battery testing can easily become dangerous for your team. Managing battery testers on an individual basis means it takes longer to be alerted of a potential situation and then address it appropriately. This is especially true when there is no notification system and you only become aware of potentially hazardous or dangerous conditions when you are at the affected cycler.

At the same time, one-to-one management of multiple cyclers has implications for battery test data management. This limitation makes it more difficult to get an overview of battery tester statuses and overall testing progress. Only viewing one battery tester and dataset at a time makes it harder to see the full picture of your testing situation – which means even more work and more time to make changes or decisions based on the test results.

These challenges are where Arbin’s Central Monitor and Control Solution can help facilitate more efficient cycler oversight and management, as well as tester data control.

Simplifying Battery Tester Management with Central Monitor and Control Solution (CMCS)

Arbin’s Central Monitor and Control Solution (CMCS) simplifies battery test equipment management so you can more efficiently manage a multi-Arbin cycler testing ecosystem. Networking Arbin systems (Arbin cycler and cycler PC) with one or more client PCs, this solution has two key components: ArbinViewer and the CTI Interface. You can oversee test status and test results from multiple cyclers on a connected PC and control testing across the network, along with user access levels. Finally, this Arbin solution allows for the integration of Arbin cycler data with third-party systems and data analysis tools. Each advantage is described in more detail below.

1.
